Drexel Men's Lacrosse Falls at Lehigh, 8-6

Bethlehem, Pa. – Lehigh outscored No. 17 Drexel 5-1 in the second half to earn an 8-6 comeback victory in a non-conference game at Ulrich Sports Complex on Lehigh's campus. The Mountain Hawks (1-1) were led by Jeff Wiener's three goals while Drexel's (1-1) Andrew Chapman scored twice.
The Mountain Hawks scored the only two goals of the third quarter to draw even with Drexel at 5-5. Lehigh then went ahead with Wiener's third goal of the game as he took a feed from Stephen Marino and beat Drexel goalie Bruce Bickford. With just 4:43 remaining senior co-captain Mike Filippone scored his first goal of the season to knot the score at 6-6. Lehigh responded however as the Mountain Hawks scored twice in the final 2:01 to come away with the victory.
The Dragons held a 5-3 halftime lead after erasing a 2-1 first-quarter deficit. Jon Van Houten scored his first goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2. Chapman scored to give the Dragons a brief lead before Weiner re-tied the game. Chapman again gave Drexel the advantage with a man-down goal and Greg Dougherty followed with an unassisted goal to give the Dragons a two-goal advantage heading into intermission.
Drexel out shot Lehigh, 33-32, and won 11-of-18 face-offs. Bickford made 11 saves in goal for Drexel while the Mountain Hawks' Eric Spirko stopped nine shots.
The Dragons return to the field on Saturday, March 3 for their home-opener against Saint Joseph's. Game time is set for noon.
